Layers Involved In Video Streaming Process?
There are three layers of data management throughout the video streaming process, these are
- Encoding – In this step, huge movies or videos are compressed into smaller pieces using h.264 or vp8 codec. It helps to convert gigabytes to megabytes. So, videos can easily be accessed by users. Along with the video, audios also get compressed using an audio codec like mp3, aac, Vorbis, etc.
- Storage – Flv, Webm, Isma, Asf, Or Mp4 acts like a container that holds all the encoded bits together. It means the encoded audio and video are assembled in a container bitstream.
- Transport – Lastly, transporting of content means to move the “to be streaming videos” from the media server to the player to stream over the internet.
For video streaming technology, UDP/IP (User Datagram Protocol) is used. It helps to deliver the multi-media flow as a sequence of small videos. It is done using RTP/RTSP, which is Real-time Transport Protocol /Real-Time Streaming Protocol. The videos that are going to stream get the package into a protocol like RTP.
Finally, after going through all the layers mentioned above, the content can be accessed over the internet.
